Getting your hair done after work

A 9-to-6 in Gurugram doesn't leave much daylight for a salon visit. Here's how to actually make an evening appointment work, instead of putting it off for another three months.

For most of Sector 43's working population, "I'll get my hair done this week" quietly becomes "next month" because the only realistic window is after 7 or 8pm, and most salons are winding down by then — or already closed. If you've ever cancelled a colour appointment because a meeting ran long, this is for you.

Know what you're asking for before you message

A quick trim can be squeezed into a short evening slot. A full colour service, keratin treatment or hair botox cannot — these routinely run two to four hours depending on hair length and the specific service, which matters a lot if you're starting at 8pm on a weeknight. Being upfront about the service when you message means the salon can tell you honestly whether tonight actually works, or whether it's better booked for a weekend when there's more room either side of it.

Message before you leave the office

The single biggest time-saver for an after-work appointment is confirming before you're already on your way — not just that a chair is free, but that the stylist you want is the one available, and roughly how long the service will actually take that evening. Explorer's own reviewers describe exactly this pattern working out well: one client walked in around 9pm for a colour service, and the team stayed on well past midnight rather than turn her away half-finished. That's not a guarantee of any particular hour on any particular night — it's a reason to ask, not assume.

What changes about an evening visit

Later slots are usually quieter, which can mean more of the stylist's attention on you rather than juggling three chairs at once — a real upside reviewers mention for evening visits generally. The trade-off is that a service that overruns has less slack behind it before closing, so a treatment with an unpredictable finish time (a first-time colour correction, for instance) is worth flagging when you message, so nobody is guessing at 9:45pm how much longer it'll take.

The realistic plan

If you're commuting straight from work: message with the service, your rough arrival time, and whether you have a stylist preference. You'll get a straight answer on whether tonight works, and if it doesn't, a better night to aim for instead — which beats finding out at the door.
